Killed in action, during the Third Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) 9th October, 1917, aged 25.

Register: Born 22nd June 1892. Entered school 15th September 1902 aged 10.
Father: Arthur Baker of 127, Foxhall Road (1902), then 4, Esher Grove, Mapperley Park. The family later lived at 8 Alverstone Road. Father’s occupation was Lace Manufacturer.
After offering himself several times he was accepted for training with the UCN OTC under Captain Trotman in September 1915. He passed on to the cadet school at the Curragh in Ireland, “being in Ireland at the time of the Sinn Fein insurrection in Dublin”. He was gazetted to the West Yorkshire Regiment on August 5th 1916 and in the following month proceeded on active service. On 15th October 1917 he had been involved in severe fighting on the Belgian coast.
